Scioto County man killed in Sunday crash

WEST PORTSMOUTH — Alcohol is suspected in a fatal crash that occurred early Sunday morning. Jesse R. Butcher, 27, of West Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at Southern Ohio Medical Center, following the crash that happened around 3 a.m. on Careys Run Pond Creek Road, five miles north of U.S. 52 in West Portsmouth.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck was northbound on Careys Run Pond Creek Road and drove off of the left side of the road. The truck struck a road sign and an embankment. Butcher, the driver, was transported to SOMC by Life Ambulance where he was pronounced dead. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash which remains under investigation. In addition, troopers said Butcher was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
