WHEELERSBURG — Misty’s Kone Shoppe is back in business.

New owners, Jim and Anita Vastine, celebrated their grand opening with the ribbon-cutting ceremony held Monday.

The ownership team is excited about re-opening Misty’s Kone Shoppe. Anita will be managing Misty’s, and Jim, who has worked in food service for Valley Foods 25 years, will assist her when he is not at his place of employment.

“We came up with an idea in about August. We have always frequented Misty’s, and we loved everything that Ronnie and Marvin Hall did here for so many years since 1985 when they opened this business,” Jim Vastine said.

Jim Vastine said the community was saddened when one of the former owners of Misty’s passed away and the other could not continue the business.

“When Ronnie was no longer able to work it and Marvin died two years ago, it spun everyone through a loop when they shut it down,” Jim Vastine said.

He said he would drive by and reminisce about all of the delicious foods that he enjoyed eating at Misty’s.

“I would drive by this place and say, ‘I miss the homemade ice cream. I missed the foot longs, and the hot dog sauce, I missed everything about Misty’s,” Jim Vastine said.

Jim Vastine said Wheelersburg residents would relate the most to the re-opening of Misty’s Kone Shoppe.

“It’s a Wheelersburg community thing. People that live in Wheelersburg understand, and they really support, and get behind Wheelersburg businesses,” Jim Vastine said.

Jim said he and his wife Anita conferred about purchasing Misty’s Kone Shoppe in August. Jim said help from his sister Nancy Hawk of Real Estate Gallery, and his parents, Ernie and Peggy Vastine of Valley Foods, attributed to the re-opening of Misty’s.

“With the grace of God, and Ronnie, and everyone involved we were able to do this,” Jim Vastine said.

According to Jim Vastine the menu items will remain the same.

“We haven’t changed any of the recipes. We’re still making the homemade ice cream, the same hot dog sauce that they made, everything is still the same,” Jim Vastine said.

Anita Vastine said their desire is that Misty’s will be a reflection of the local community.

“We want Misty’s to represent the Wheelersburg community and the surrounding communities. We want it to be a family-oriented place of business, that provides quality products in a fun atmosphere,” Anita Vastine said.

Anita Vastine said Misty’s currently has seven employees that are ready to serve the public.

“We have very good employees that provide excellent service. We are just going to have fun and want the whole community involved,” she said.

Misty’s Kone Shoppe’s hours of operation are Monday through Saturday - 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Closed Sundays.

According to Anita Vastine, the hours of operation could change later in the winter. She said the hours would be extended during the summer and will be open seven days a week.
