Miller leads Portsmouth to sweep of Logan

Coming off her fourth-place finish in the state last year, Ali Miller helped lead visiting Portsmouth to a 5-0 sweep over SEOAL foe Logan Monday.


Miller, last year’s SEOAL Player of the Year and who committed last week to play at the University of Cincinnati according to a report from the Logan Daily News and later confirmed by the Daily Times, defeated Alicia Clark 6-0, 6-0 in first singles action. However, the Chiefs forced matches of three-and-a-half hours in third singles, three hours in first doubles and two hours in second singles.


The Trojans play their first home match Tuesday morning when they host Notre Dame for a 10 a.m. start.

Golf

Logan Invitational at Brass Ring Golf Club

Portsmouth finished eighth in the 16-team Logan Invitational at Brass Ring Golf Club Monday.

Trent Redbill paced the Trojans with a round of 83 at the par-71 golf course. Brandon Jones (84), Tanner Poage (95) and Drew Miller (103) helped complete the team score of 365.

Lancaster Fairfield Union won the competition with a team score of 312, five strokes better than Lancaster Fisher Catholic. Logan Holbrook paced the host school with a 69 as the medalist for the match.

The Portsmouth Invitational is Aug. 15 at the Elks Country Club.
