Jeeps take 70-41 road win over Tartans

A big statistical night for a plethora of South Webster players took place Monday night as the visiting Jeeps defeated nonconference foe East 70-41.


Kaci Messer led South Webster with 23 points and six steals, Courtney Blanton, Taylor Shonkwiler and Cheyenne Weakley each scored 10 points. Blanton had 12 steals and Weakley had seven. Mercedes Tackett led the Tartans with 16 points and Tiffany Craft finished with 11.


The Jeeps travel Thursday to Valley. East is at New Boston.

Portsmouth 71, West Union 23

Host Portsmouth could’ve stopped its scoring after the first quarter of Monday’s home nonconference game with West Union and still led.

Instead, the Trojans kept scoring and in bunches on their way to a 71-23 win over the Dragons.

Peighton Williams paced Portsmouth with a game-high 23 points. Tyler Mallory’s 13 points, Jada Jenkins’ 11 and Dasia Kennedy were all in double figures in the win.

The Trojans welcome Gallia Academy for Saturday afternoon’s SEOAL tip.

Clay 46, Chillicothe Southeastern 31

Lexie Gilliland scored 17 points and Katie Redding grabbed 11 rebounds as visiting Clay won the battle between the Panthers with a 46-31 nonconference triumph over Chillicothe Southeastern.

The Panthers return to Scioto County Thursday to host Notre Dame.

Minford 45, Alexander 37

With four Minford seniors playing their final home game Monday, they went out with a win as the Falcons defeated Alexander 45-37 in Monday’s nonconference tilt.

Junior Kylie Berry led the victors with 15 points. Tylin Bender was the highest-scoring senior with four.

Minford is at West Thursday.

Madison Applegate’s 20 rebounds were two shy of the school record and Giulia Elli had 15 points but it wasn’t enough Monday night as Green fell at Ashland (Ky.) Fairview 44-25.

The Bobcats host Eastern Thursday.
