A simple traffic stop turned out to be much more when three people were arrested on felony drug charges Wednesday.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers stopped a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica on U.S. 23 South, near Lucasville, at about 9:12 p.m. for a registration violation. After approaching the vehicle, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana coming from the passenger compartment of the vehicle. During a pat down of one of the occupants, the trooper discovered a baggie containing 13 grams of marijuana.
The female driver, Chanel Bufkin, age 25, of Toledo, advised the trooper that she was concealing contraband on her person and voluntarily forfeited 15 grams of cocaine and 23 grams of heroin. The combined contraband had a street value about about $5,015. Troopers also seized about $1,000 in cash.
Bufkin and her passengers — Jermer Howard, age 24, and Lapercy Allen, age 33, both of Toledo — were each charged with felony possession of cocaine and felony possession of heroin. They were all taken to the Scioto County Jail.
