POINT PLEASANT —There could be a funding opportunity to place a long term substance abuse service recovery program in Mason County.
Members of the Mason County Anti-Drug Coalition are asking those from every aspect of the community to attend its next meeting to hear about this possibility. The meeting is at 5:30 p.m., Aug. 29 at the Mason County Library with a light dinner and refreshments served.
Attending this meeting will be Tim White with Prestera and Karen Yost who is working with White on the project. Earlier this month, Yost spoke to coalition members about possible additional money for this opportunity which is still in the very early phases. Yost was to obtain more information in preparation for her presentation at the Aug. 29 meeting at the library.
The role of members in the anti-drug coalition will be to support the project, as well as to obtain letters of support from not only the key stakeholders in the community, but anyone and everyone to reflect a good representation of all of the county.

Members met earlier this month to reorganization after taking the summer off. Attending were White; Paula Gregory, Contact; Woodrow Moore, Contact; Juan McCabe, WVDJS; John Machir, Mountain State Healthy Families; Mary Sue Kincaid, community member; Diana Riddle, Mason County Health Department.
White reported Mason County did a “very good job” last year in meeting all the deliverables of the grant for the Coalition. White also asked to find out from Georgianna Tillis the remaining amount of funds available so the Coalition can order additional materials for some of the evidence base programs and brochures before the end of the grant period.
Machir suggested Coalition members tailgate at each of the schools again this year and White mentioned that members do the homecoming games at each of the high schools to hand out anti-drug materials.
Riddle reported that Lauri Johnson had given out the remaining backpacks and water bottles at the Back to School Bash held on Aug. 12 in Point Pleasant. Riddle was to take bottles to New Haven on Aug. 15 for its Back to School Bash. The Coalition has approximately 150 left that can be divided between the three schools for tailgating activities.
The Coalition decided to meet at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month with the September and October meetings taking place at the Bailey House behind the high school. Plans are to move additional meetings to different areas of the county, including the Northern and Southern ends. Locations to be announced.
