Visiting Clay could not dig out of a 3-0 hole Monday as the Panthers dropped their season opener 5-3 to another squad with the Panther nickname, Chillicothe Southeastern.


Mason Pelphrey accounted for two of Clay’s three tallies on the night while Josh Crapyou put the visitors on the board in the second half. Michael Gleason had 10 saves while Shannon Curley and Aaron Keyser each chipped in with an assist.


The Panthers travel to New Boston Thursday to begin SOC I play.

A back-and-forth affair went in favor of Northwest Tuesday as the Mohawks earned a five-set road victory over North Adams in the debut of new coach Alisha Riley.

Haleigh Vastine led the Mohawks with 16 kills while Brook Miller had 18 assists and Ashley Riley chipped in with 28 digs. Northwest entertains Clay Thursday.
