SSU dean set to retire, again

In released from Shawnee State University (SSU) Friday afternoon, Dr. Jim Kadel has announced his intentions to retire as the Dean of the College of Professional Studies effective Sept. 1.
In detailing his career at SSU President Dr. Rita Rice Morris explained, “Jim joined Shawnee State as the Director of the Dental Hygiene program in 1980. He served as the Dean of the College of Professional Studies in the 1990’s until his first retirement in 2001. He returned as Interim Dean in 2007 and then accepted the permanent position in 2009. Jim’s leadership over the past 33 years has had a tremendous impact on the growth of Shawnee State University and advances in our academic programs. We are grateful for his many years of service.”
Kadel also announced his intentions of remaining with SSU as the dental hygiene programs dentist in residence.
Morris stated that, Dr. Paul Madden has been appointed Interim Dean of the College of Professional Studies during this transition period.
In June SSU announced Jeff Bauer, Ph.D., as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Bauer was the first full-time faculty member in geology at SSU, when the university began. In 1996, he was promoted to professor. He has served in numerous leadership positions at SSU including chair of the Department of Natural Sciences, interim associate provost, interim dean of Research and Community Development, president of SEA, and chair of numerous search and other university committees.
Earlier this year Marcie Hatfield Simms was appointed Dean of Students at SSU.
