New student registration is currently underway in all buildings in the Portsmouth City School District from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Parents should bring their child’s birth certificate, immunization record, Social Security card, and custody papers, if applicable.

The first day of classes for students will be Aug. 21. PHS/PJHS students report from 7:40 a.m. to 2:28 p.m.; Portsmouth Elementary students report from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; and East Portsmouth Elementary students report from 8:20 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Kindergarten and 1st grade students of Portsmouth Elementary School will receive a letter from the school outlining their instructions for the first day of school. PES students in grades 2-6 are to report on Wednesday.

Students in grades 1-6 at East Portsmouth Elementary School are to report on Wednesday. Kindergarten boys are to report on Wednesday and kindergarten girls are to report on Thursday. All EPES kindergarten students report on Monday, Aug. 25.

On Wednesday, seventh and eighth grade students are to enter PHS/PJHS using the front doors on Gallia Street; high school students are to enter the building using the back doors on Ninth Street. This will make it easier for students to get to their appropriate classroom for the purpose of distributing schedules. When junior high and high school students arrive there will be personnel available at the entrances to assist students and give directions.

Morning bus schedules will be published in the newspaper on Aug. 15. Breakfast and lunch will be available to students at no cost, and to staff, beginning Aug. 21.

Latch Key before and after school services at Portsmouth Elementary and East Portsmouth Elementary will be available for parents beginning Aug. 21. Questions regarding latch key services should be directed to the respective building principal.

The Portsmouth district also announces that each building will host an open house for parents and students as follows: Monday, Aug. 19 - Portsmouth Elementary School, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. grades PreK-6; Tuesday, Aug. 20 - East Portsmouth Elementary School from 6-6:45 p.m.; and Portsmouth High/Junior High School from 5-6 p.m.

PHS/PJHS also will conduct a “Meet the Teams Night” on Tuesday, Aug. 20, starting at 6 p.m. with an OHSAA mandatory video for parents of student athletes in the auditeria, followed by “Meet the Teams” at 7 p.m. in the main gym at the school.
