Federal fugitive arrested

Federal fugitive Darryl Smith, also known as “Slim” has been arrested In Portsmouth. Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware and Sheriff Marty V. Donini said around 9 p.m. on Friday, the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force, which consists of Narcotics Detectives from the Portsmouth Police Department, the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, arrested Smith who was wanted on a federal indictment for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin.
A detective with the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force and Portsmouth police officers working off of a drug enforcement grant, stopped a vehicle being driven by Ashley Arnett, in the 1100 block of Monroe Street in Portsmouth. Darryl Smith was a passenger in the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody. Investigators said two children were in the vehicle at the time of the arrest.
A search of the vehicle revealed 16.7 grams of cocaine and 10 - 80 milligram oxycontin pills. Both Smith and Arnett were charged with felony-2 trafficking in cocaine in the vicinity of a juvenile, felony-3 possession of cocaine, felony-2 trafficking in a schedule II (oxycontin) drug in the vicinity of a juvenile and possession of a schedule II (oxycontin) drug, a third degree felony. Authorities say additional charges will be presented to the Scioto County grand jury.
