Southern Ohio Medical Center (SOMC) CEO Randy Arnett met with the Scioto County Commissioners on Thursday to talk about the possibility of purchasing or leasing county land in West Portsmouth to build a clinic.
According to Mike Crabtree, Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners, the county property SOMC is looking at is across from Riverside Park in West Portsmouth on U.S. 52.
“We are looking into the possibility of whether or not we can lease or sell to them for their purpose,” Crabtree said. “We sent some paperwork over to Danielle (Parker, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office) to see what kind of a lease term we could give them and what conditions would come with it.”
Crabtree said what the county can offer SOMC will be centered around Parker’s response.
According to an SOMC spokesman, they are looking to build a family practice at a yet to be determined location in West Portsmouth. The spokesman said SOMC is looking at a number of possible locations in that community.
At the request of the Daily Times, SOMC issued the following statement, “as a part of our commitment to improving access to exceptional primary care throughout our area, Southern Ohio Medical Center is considering several options for establishing a physical presence in West Portsmouth. We (SOMC) will be welcoming Dr. Debra Lewis to SOMC and are looking forward to finding a location to make her family practice available to our patients.”
