For the second time in months, Jeff Lisath has stepped away from the Piketon boys basketball program according to a Chillicothe Gazette report Thursday.

Lisath — who resigned from the program after the Redstreaks finished the season with a 22-4 record with his third-straight Scioto Valley Conference title (fourth overall) and third trip to the regionals — rescinded his resignation later in the spring. As the warden of the Dayton Correctional Institution, the nearly two-hour drive, one way, from the prison to the school on a daily basis was one of the original reasons for his departure. Before taking a position in Dayton, Lisath worked for the Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe.

In nine seasons at Piketon, Lisath is the school’s all-time winningest coach with an overall record of 140-68 and 93-33 in SVC play. One of the highlights to Lisath’s head coaching career came in the 2008-2009 season when he took the Redstreaks, who finished eighth in the Associated Press poll, to the Division III State Final Four. The 2012-2013 season was the only other time a Lisath-led Piketon team finished the season ranked in the state poll as the Redstreaks were ninth.

He helped Portsmouth to the 1973 state championship as a player and as an assistant coach in 1988. He went on to letter for four years at Miami (Ohio) for late and legendary coach Charlie Coles, who died June 7.

Lisath went on to try out for the then-New Jersey Nets in 1982 and for the formerly-named Washington Bullets in 1983. His head coaching stops prior to Piketon included Columbus State Community College, Unioto and Chillicothe. His overall coaching record stands at 271-139.

Piketon athletic director Jason Taylor was unable to return multiple requests for comment to The Daily Times Thursday. He did send an email to media outlets earlier in the day to announce the vacancy.
