Kids from all over the area and kids visiting from all over the country will converge on the EZ Park, south of the railroad tracks at the corner of 11th Street and Waller Street in Portsmouth. It’s the kick-off of the Summer Outreach Club Program for kids ages 5-12 in Scioto County.
“We will be accepting registrations and introducing the parents and the kids to the program,” Clarence Parker, coordinator for the camp, said. “We’ll be giving out the schedule of some of the activities, the rules and the guidelines for our program from 10 a.m. Monday until 2 p.m.”
After registrations on Monday, the program will hold a cookout.
“We start our regular schedule of programming on Tuesday, June 4, at the 14th Street Community Center,” Parker said. “Our daily program will run from 9:30 in the morning until 3:30 in the afternoon. It’s open enrollment. They can come any time during the summer. It is open to any child in Scioto County and beyond. We have kids who come into town from out of town for vacation with family members, and they come and join us for whatever period of time they are here.”
Last year the program saw 240 children registered for the program, and Parker said he expects from 250-270 this year.
“We provide them with motivational, recreational and educational opportunities, field trips, guest speakers, arts and crafts, learning experiences for them,” Parker said.
