A two-lane resurfacing and bridge repair project is set to begin on Ohio 140 in Scioto County as preliminary operations get under way this week.

On Wednesday, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will begin repair work on bridges located at the 8.52 and 12.39-mile markers, which are situated between County Road 51 (Great Meadow Road) and C.R. 17 (Frederick Road) at Scioto Furnace and between the intersecting points of C.R. 2 (Lick Run-Lyra Road), east of South Webster, respectively.

Kathleen Fuller, Public Information Officer for District 9 of ODOT, said, in addition to repairing the bridges, crews will be resurfacing portions of the route beginning near C.R. 251 (Hastings Hill Road) and the Portsmouth corporation limit and continuing to the Lawrence County line. The contractors will also be resurfacing Ohio 140 in Lawrence County, from the Scioto to the Jackson County line.

Fuller said, throughout construction at the bridges, traffic will be maintained in one, 10-foot lane with the use of temporary traffic signals, and in the remainder of the construction zone, traffic will be maintained by flaggers when crews are at work.

The Shelly Company, of Thornville, Ohio was awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $3.2 million to complete the project, and all work is anticipated to be completed by late November.
