Martha Green Vigor, 99
Martha (Green ) Vigor, 99, a Hudson resident of more than 20 years, passed away May 7 at age 99. Martha was born in Cambridge, Ohio in 1913 and grew up in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1931. She graduated from Ohio University in 1935 with a B. S. in Education , and was in the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Martha served in the Red Cross during World War II. She was an elementary school teacher in Upper Arlington, Ohio. Martha was a champion amateur golfer who played in numerous pro-am events. She was also an accomplished bridge player and equestrian. She loved animals.
Martha was married to the late John C. Vigor in 1953. They resided in Ashland, Ky. Following John’s death, Martha lived in Venice, Fla. and then moved to Hudson, Ohio to be close to her sister, Mary Caroline Kelling, and family.
Martha leaves behind two stepsons, John and Frank Vigor, and three nephews, Gilbert V. Jr., David H. (Katrina), and Dr. James S. (Carmen) Kelling. Martha was the proud great aunt of Lauren, Bruce, Kristin, David, Daniel, and Julie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Herbert A. Mabel (Murphey) Green of Portsmouth, as well as her sister, Mary Caroline Kelling, and her brother, Herbert A. Green, Jr.. Martha resided at Laurel Lake Retirement Community for more than 20 years, where a memorial service was held on May 10. This was followed by a graveside burial service in Granville, Ohio.
