Seven health care agencies throughout Scioto County are teaming together to host a free health screening on May 15 at the McDermott Senior Center. All of the screenings and services during the event are being offered free of charge to Scioto County residents.
The agencies coming together to host the event include, Southern Ohio Medical Center, Heartland, Compass Community Health, CareSource, King’s Daughters Medical Center Ohio and the Portsmouth and Scioto Health Departments.
“This is open to Scioto County residents at the McDermott Senior Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We want to reach out with this event to those who may not go to the doctor, to get people aware how they can improve their health and in turn reduce Scioto County’s health rankings,” said Belinda Leslie event spokeswoman.
Some of the free screenings include, a free hemoglobin A1c screenings, with no fasting necessary, being provided by Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Compass Community Health will be providing consultations on the relationship between diet and effective medication therapy. Portsmouth City Health Department will be providing free HIV testing, STD testing providing on income base. Bring identification, proof of income or insurance. Condoms and information on Vivitrol and immunizations will also be provided.
CareSource will be providing refreshments and information on Medicaid and the CareSource plan benefits. King’s Daughters Medical Center Ohio will be providing Glucose, cholesterol, EKG and Mammography. Patients wanting a mammogram will need to call 1-877-304-1935 to register. Mammograms will be billed to patient’s insurance. If they are not insured of underinsured they may be eligible for funding from the Komen grant.
Heartland will be providing, blood pressures and dietary consults.
“This is a first time effort to bring all of these agencies together for one screening. The success of this event will be base on the turnout, we need folks to come see what we are doing,” Leslie said. “There is no limit to the number of people that can be seen at this event. What we would like to do as a followup to this event is come back in six months and do it again and see how people have progressed.”
The McDermott Senior Center is located at, 2274 McDermott-Pond Creek Road, McDermott, Ohio.
