As part of a major rehabilitation project on U.S. Route 52 in Scioto County, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the state Route 239 exit ramp early next month.

On Monday, May 6, crews from Complete General Construction will close the exit ramp (Ramp F) from U.S. 52 East to S.R. 239 at the bridge situated over the Lousy Run tributary in order to rehabilitate the structure.

“Construction and maintenance projects are in full swing throughout the state, and as the orange barrels, cones, flaggers and temporary signals go up, it’s important to remind motorists of the need for additional safety in all work zones,” said Ohio Department of Transportation - District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson.

Currently, U.S. 52 is reduced to one, 11-foot lane in each direction between T.R. 569 (Old U.S. 52) near the S.R. 239 interchange and the Scioto River bridges at the Portsmouth corporation limit. The project work limits will also include portions of S.R. 73, S.R. 239 and S.R. 852.

While the bridge on the ramp will be closed, motorists will still have access to S.R. 239 North from U.S. 52; however, motorists traveling from S.R. 239 South to U.S. 52 East will be detoured via S.R. 73/104. The closure is anticipated to be in effect for up to 60 days, and completion of this phase of construction will be contingent upon the weather and any significant rain delays.

The Complete General Construction Company was awarded a contract for approximately $12 million to complete the project, and all work for the two-year project is anticipated to be completed in early to mid-fall of 2014.
