Kathleen Fuller, Public Information Officer for the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 9, says there is always a need for organizations to help keep the state’s roadways clear of trash.

ODOT this week recognized the Lucasville Masonic Lodge No. 465 of Scioto County for their participation in the state’s Adopt-A-Highway Program.

“We appreciate the efforts of the Lucasville Masons to help beautify Ohio and clean up one of the area’s most-heavily traveled routes,” ODOT - District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson, said. “Their involvement assists our maintenance crews in maintaining a clean highway system, and we appreciate their ongoing participation.”

In their first outing this year, Mike Adkins, Neal Allen, R.D. Baker, Nelson Bellar, Ken Boldman, Butch Buckle, Denny Edwards, Bill Gundlah, Paul Kennedy, Fred Mitchell and Jason Throckmorton collected 28 bags of litter along U.S. Route 23 on April 20.

Members of Adopt-A-Highway since 1994, the Lucasville Masonic Lodge was awarded the Gold Star designation in the spring of 2005 for its long-standing participation in the program.

Fuller said ODOT will provide volunteers with trash bags and safety vests at no cost for those groups participating in the Adopt-A-Highway program and the department will post a sign inscribed with the group’s name within the adopted section of highway.

Any group interested in becoming part of the Adopt-A-Highway program in Scioto County should contact ODOT’s highway maintenance facility by calling 740-259-2071, Fuller at 740-774-8834 or kfuller@dot.state.oh.us or Katie Wiget in the district’s highway management department at 740-774-8903 or kwiget@dot.state.oh.us.
