The Scioto County Memorial Day Committee is reminding area residents and organizations that this year’s Memorial Day Parade and services are scheduled for May 27, 2013. Anyone wishing to participate should let them know right away.

Jim Saddler of the Memorial Day Committee said information and applications can be obtained by contacting the Scioto County Veterans Service Commission in care of Kristie Powell, Grand Marshal, Court House Annex Building Sixth and Court Streets, Portsmouth, Ohio 45662.

Saddler said the KIA-MIA Memorial services will begin at 9 a.m. at Tracy Park in Portsmouth. The parade will begin to line up at 9:30 a.m. at Tracy Park, and at 10 a.m., the parade will leave Tracy Park for Greenlawn Cemetery. Once the parade reaches Greenlawn, Memorial Day services at Soldier’s Circle will get underway at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Other events for the day include the Lost At Sea services at the Court Street Landing near the Ohio River at 12:30 p.m.; lunch at James Dickey Post 23 at Seventh and Court streets with Raven Rock Hillbillies Clan 1 and Outhouse 3, performing chef duties for the day. At 2 p.m., the Portsmouth Fire Department will hold their Memorial service at the Gallia Street Fire Station.
