FLATWOODS — Greenup County Habitat for Humanity will host the first of a six-month series of Second Friday McCruise-Ins at the McDonald’s in Flatwoods on Friday, May 10. It is a part of their continual fundraising efforts to make affordable, low income housing available to local families.

The event, which is held monthly May through October, takes place at the neighboring Food Fair parking lot, located at 2133 Argillite Road.

GCHFH President Rhonda Nunley said the Greenup County Cruisers will help conduct the event.

“We are grateful for their support. They help promote and setup the event, register participants, park vehicles, provide music and announcing and help with clean up. They are a great group of people who enjoy helping the community,” Nunley said.

Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicle or dress up according to a theme, but it is not required. Special activities, prizes and raffles will be offered each month to match the theme.

“We hope the variety of activities, music and prizes will make each McCruise-In unique and keep participants coming back each month,” Nunley said.

According to Nunley, each month has a special theme.

May 10 will see a beach theme, June 14 will be themed around the 50s, July 12 will be Patriotic, Aug. 9 will be a kids night, Sept. 13 will be themed on football and Oct. 11 will have Halloween theme.

Participants can start registering cars, trucks, motorcycles and any other type of vehicles at 6 p.m. for a donation of $5. All types, makes, models and years of vehicles are welcome.

McDonald’s is the event sponsor and along with John Clark Oil will provide door prizes for those who register.

Door prizes include $25 gas gift cards, with one card given away every 15 minutes from 7 to 9 p.m. WLGC will have a live remote broadcast and a DJ will provide music.

Fifty/fifty tickets will be sold with the drawing held at 9 p.m. Raffle tickets will be sold on items that match each monthly theme. Tickets are one for $1 and six for $5. A winning ticket will be drawn at 9 p.m. Admission is free for spectators.
