Northwest had back-to-back-to-back triples in the second inning Thursday, a frame after scoring 12 runs as the host Mohawks defeated Clay 15-4 in five innings.


Wyatt Bazler, Matt Penix and Blain Honaker each had three-base hits in the second. Bazler was 4-for-4 and was a home run shy of the cycle in support of Logan Kongos, who struck out six and walked two. Zach Jackson had two hits and Jacob Crosier recorded a pair of runs batted in to lead the Panthers.


Northwest entertains Valley Friday. Clay ventures Friday to New Boston.

Malizio, Emily Richard, Bethany Conley and Elysia Montgomery each had a pair of hits while Brooke Cooper recorded a triple. Katie Moore, Maegan Lynn and Taylor Cantrell each recorded two hits for the Mohawks.

The Indians travel Saturday to Ironton for a doubleheader. Northwest starts a three-game, two-day tournament Friday at Lancaster.

Sammie Marting hit her sixth home run of the season as her two-run blast in the first sparked a three-run inning that helped Notre Dame grab a 9-2 SOC I win at Symmes Valley.

Madi Phillips and Jen Arnzen each had three hits while Tori Harr struck out seven to stay perfect in seven decisions. The Titans will play Friday in the 2013 Wendy’s Classic against Viena Mathews and could face either North Canton Hoover or Baldwin-Woodville (WI) in the finale.
