A Portsmouth husband and wife have averted a trial by entering guilty pleas to agreed-upon charges. Albert T. Wilkerson, 54, of 5940 Woodland Ave., entered guilty pleas to four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, felonies of the third degree. April M. Wilkerson, 37, of the same address, entered a guilty plea to child endangering.

“She cooperated in his (Albert Wilkerson) prosecution,” Scioto County Prosecutor Mark Kuhn said. “Her case was passed for presentence investigation.”

Albert Wilkerson received a 10-year prison sentence and was ordered to register as a Tier-2 sex offender for the next 25 years.

The original arrest in the case was made on July 16, 2012, and the victim in the case, who is now 17, reportedly told authorities that conduct began in 2004. During the investigation, a search warrant was executed at the Woodland Avenue address and during that search, officers said they located evidence.

Both had been scheduled to go on trial Monday of next week.

On July 16, 2012, Portsmouth Police were reportedly informed by a 16-year-old girl that she had been sexually assaulted by Wilkerson. According to the Portsmouth Police booking sheet, April Wilkerson reportedly told officers she had been informed of the activity by the victim at least two times.
