Gladys Johnson, 97


Gladys Lucille Johnson, 97, of McDermott, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Bristol Village in Waverly.


She was born March 2, 1916, in Sandy Springs, Ohio, a daughter of the late Dorsa and Ethel Gilkerison McFarland.


Gladys was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse working at Mercy and Scioto Memorial Hospitals, and Rest Haven Nursing Home. She also farmed the family farm with her husband John for many years. She was a member of the Lucasville Garden Club and a Scioto Ambulance District Squad 2 volunteer. She was a member of the McDermott United Methodist church and the WSCS. Her favorite hobbies were tending to her flower gardens and caring for others.


She is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Bev) Johnson of Jackson, Leonard (Hope) Johnson and Gene (Janie) Johnson both of McDermott; two daughters, Frances Dettwiller of Washington Court House, Ohio, and Sharon Spears of McDermott; daughter-in-law June Johnson of Orient, Ohio.; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Gash of West Union; and sisters-in-law, Lena Staggs and Josephine Johnson both of Peebles and Marie McFarland, Gladys Copas, and Delores McFarland all of West Union.


She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Johnson, Aug. 27, 1999; two sons, Jerry Johnson and Paul Wayne Johnson; and four brothers, Leon, Cecil, Earl, and Bill McFarland.


Funeral services will be conducted at noon, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at the McDermott United Methodist Church with Frances Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Scioto Burial Park. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville and for an hour before the funeral Saturday at the church.


The family would like to thank the SOMC Hospice staff for their fine tender loving care of our mother.
