LUCASVILLE — Simplicity is the easiest part of any decision-making process.

For Valley senior Morgan Castle, the option was to either play tennis in college or focus solely on school. After weighing her options, the drive of the sport has landed Castle on the Alice Lloyd College tennis team, an NAIA school in Pippa Passes, Ky., over attending Ohio Christian, Kentucky Christian or Morehead State for just academics.

“It really appealed to me because they’re all about leadership,” Castle said announcing her collegiate intentions to the Daily Times. “Through my many activities (such as) 4-H and other activities through school, I’ve learned many leadership skills.”

Castle also cited the warmth of the campus as another reason as to why she has decided to attend the school and play for the Eagles in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. She will be studying biology with a minor in chemistry with the goal of becoming a biology teacher.

“They are so friendly there, they would help you with anything you would need,” Castle said.

Valley tennis coach Jill Davis knows Alice Lloyd will be getting an individual with a lot of positives and someone who dedicated her previous four falls to the Indians program. What sticks out the most in Davis’ mind is Castle’s ability to work beyond the daily practices to improve her game.

“Morgan Castle is a very sweet girl with a lot of character about her,” Davis said. “She’s very good with others as far as in anything that she does.”

Mary Turner leads the Eagles and Castle felt the interaction from the start made the fit more natural. Turner is also an admissions counselor for the college.

“Whenever we talked about to tennis, she came to me and said this is a really tight group, (they) travel, (they) do things together and that really appealed to me,” Castle said. “It seemed like everybody got along, everybody went together and they wanted to everything together.”

Turner has told Castle she likes her drive and her power and is willing to work with her footwork as she moves to the next level. As she leaves high school and her previous teammates behind — whom she characterized as her sisters — the goal will be to create a new bond with new teammates.
