Robert Hartlage, 86


Robert Edward Hartlage, 86, of Portsmouth, Ohio died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his residence. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, at Portsmouth the son of the late Clifton and Verna Hartlage.


Bob was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School and Eastern Kentucky University. He was former employee of Goodyear Atomic Corporation, and the first Income Tax Commissioner for the City of Portsmouth and retired from the City of Portsmouth as Water Works Manager. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he served as an usher and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, James Dickey Post No. 23 American Legion, and a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia “Bunny” Hartlage Jan. 30, 2009, three brothers Kenneth Hartlage, John Hartlage and Dave Hartlage, three sisters Lorraine Seyfried, Ruth Pellegrinon, and Jane Keevil.


Surviving are his children Steve (Donna) Hartlage of Rosemount and Karen (Myke) Watts of LaValette, W.Va.; his grandchildren Ryan (Jenifer) Mosley, Ellen Watts, Molly Watts and Bailey Hartlage; a sister-in-law Shirley Hartlage of Portsmouth and several nieces and nephews A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev Adam Streitenberger officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery.


Friends may call at Melcher Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at Melcher Funeral Home. Military Graveside Rites will be by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church Building Fund.
