FRANKLIN FURNACE — Green High School band teacher Adam Phillips resigned from the school on Thursday, following a disciplinary school board meeting earlier this week.

According to Green Superintendent Sandy Mers, Phillips was accused of being involved in an incident that occurred after school-hours in which students were inadvertently exposed to inappropriate adult material. Mers said that upon realizing the situation, Phillips quickly removed the students.

The school board met Monday for a special meeting to discuss possible disciplinary action, but no action was taken.

Mers said Phillips submitted to her a written letter of resignation on Thursday, citing only personal reasons. She said she was waiting to discuss Phillips’ contract with the new district treasurer Brodie Merrill when Merrill starts on Monday. In the meantime, she said Phillips will not be back and a substitute teacher has taken over the band while the school begins its search for a full-time replacement.

Phillips was not available to comment on Thursday.
