Host Notre Dame clinched its second-straight SOC I title outright Thursday as the Titans defeated Symmes Valley 49-41 on Senior Night.


Jen Arnzen finished with 16 points, 20 rebounds and six steals in one of her final home games. Sarah Crabtree had 10 for the Vikings.


The win clinches Notre Dame’s first 20-game season in school history. The Titans will host Western Monday to close the regular season. Symmes Valley takes on Trimble in Monday’s Division IV Southeast Sectional Semifinal at Athens High School.

Wheelersburg 70, Northwest 51

Wheelersburg closed its regular season portion of the schedule with a 70-51 road SOC II win a Northwest.

Sydney Holden led all scorers with 20 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Pirates. Fay Proehl and Brooklyn Adams each had 14 while Brooke Smith added 11 and eight rebounds. Darbie Jenkins finished with 12 for the Mohawks.

Both teams will next step on the floor in tournament action. Wheelersburg takes on the winner of Monday’s Portsmouth-West game in the Feb. 16 Division III Southeast Sectional Championship at Valley. Northwest plays Minford at Valley Wednesday in a Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal.

With the number of home games dwindling, Portsmouth senior Jayllen Carter scored 21 points to lead the host Trojans to a 58-42 win over Greenup County (Ky.).

Freshman teammate Ky’re Allison added 16 points in the win. Brandon Johnson paced the Musketeers with 11.

Portsmouth hosts Gallia Academy Friday night.
