In an e-mail to sent Main Street Portsmouth Board members Tuesday, President of the MSP Board Scott Moore acknowledged the resignation of MSP Executive Director Jennifer Kephas.

“Monday afternoon I have received a letter of resignation from Jennifer Kephas, Executive Director of Main Street Portsmouth, affective February 15, 2013,” the e-mail read.

The e-mail continued, “I have spoken with Jennifer, and as opportunities have presented themselves, she has made a decision to move in a direction she feels will benefit her and her family. It is with sorrow and respect I accepted her letter.”

Main Street Portsmouth is nonprofit organization that utilizes the approach developed by the National Main Street program. The organization’s mission is to preserve the historic integrity of downtown Portsmouth and the historic Boneyfiddle district.

“Jennifer has been a tremendous asset to MSP over the past year as Executive Director, and perhaps more importantly Jennifer has been effective in communicating MSP’s mission throughout the community,” Moore’s e-mail read. “We will miss her greatly and wish her the best.”

Heritage Ohio, the accrediting agency that oversees Main Street Portsmouth, describes the organization’s priority as the investment of, “funds in the community by providing matching building improvement grants to property owners and sponsoring community events and activities. MSP also wishes to empower business owners by giving them the tools they need to create successful, thriving businesses that will revitalize the downtown area.”

“MSP will continue and the Executive Committee is moving quickly to select an interim Director until the position can be filled permanently,” Tuesday’s e-mail read.

When contacted Tuesday by the Daily Times, Moore deferred comment on the leadership change and pending replacement process to a later date.
