Elizabeth Martin, 97


Elizabeth “Libby” Martin, 97, went home to be with the Lord shortly before midnight on Dec. 28, 2012, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born in Clay Township on June 11, 1915, to Sheridan and Eliza Carver Cox. She resided most of her life in Eden Park; New Boston and most recently at Heartland of Portsmouth.


She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lenward A. Martin; her daughter, Sharon L. Mathis; and a grandson, Timothy Ryan Martin.


She is survived by two sons, Richard (Betty) Martin of Avon Park, Florida, and Timothy D. (Susie) Martin of Portsmouth, Ohio; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.


Libby was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. She was a devoted mother and good friend to many throughout her lifetime. Her favorite passage of scripture was the 23rd Psalms, which she had hidden in her heart, along with many other passages.


Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at F.C. Daehler Mortuary Company in Portsmouth, with Pastor Don Noel officiating. Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Daehlers, and one hour before the services on Wednesday.
