On Tuesday the Scioto County Commissioners accepted a report from the Ohio Department of Taxation on the county’s permissive sales tax for October.

“We received a total of $805,969.42 it is down $34,185.40 from this time last year. Over all for the year we are up $608,433.64 for the year,” said Skip Riffe, chairman of the Scioto county Commissioners. “We would have like to have seen this one be as much or greater than last year. I’m not really overly concerned with it, of the 12 months nine of them were up, three of them were down. Being up $608,000 for the year is still a great thing.”

Riffe said October is the last reporting month for the calendar year in permissive sales tax. He said in January the county will receive Novembers permissive sales tax revenue.

In August the commissioners reported the permissive sale tax was down over $50,000 compared to this time last year. Representing the biggest decline of the year. The county reported collecting $888,278.35 in permissive sales tax in August.

Recently the Scioto County Financial Planning and Supervision Commission approved the commissioners transferring the remaining balance of the debt on the Juvenile Center of $577,611.41.

For the year Scioto County has received $207,120.49 from the state casino tax.

The county also recently received $414,000 in revenue from the closing of the Infra-metals property in New Boston.

Due to increased revenue, the commissioners were able to transfer enough money to eliminate the debt of the former Juvenile Detention Center. Riffe said now the county will begin to look at 2014, 2015 and 2016 budget projections.
