A second-straight bus trip did not affect Minford Saturday as the Falcons defeated Racland (Ky.) 61-41 in the Lewis County (Ky.) McDonald’s Showcase.


Jared McCray led all scorers with 19 points and Austin McBee chipped in with 11 to give the Falcons their third win in five nights. They will be on the road yet again Tuesday night as they pay a visit to South Webster in a key SOC II battle.

A big night out of potential Division I prospect Shane Hall helped Paintsville (Ky.) Johnson Central give Portsmouth its second loss in a row as the Golden Eagles won 65-50 in a nonleague game that took place at Ashland (Ky.) Boyd County High School.

Hall had a game-high 29 points and a career-best seven dunks in the contest as teammate Slade McPeek finished with 11 and Dalton Adkins had 10. The Trojans received a 17-point performance from Jayllen Carter as their top scorer of the night.

Portsmouth will look to regroup Tuesday as the Trojans welcome nonleague foe South Point.

A rough first quarter was too much for Wheelersburg to overcome as the Pirates suffered their first loss of the season Saturday, a 62-41 setback to tournament host Ashland (Ky.) Boyd County in the Boyd County Classic.

Fay Proehl led Wheelersburg with 14 points and nine rebounds while teammate Brooklyn Adams added 13 and eight. Taylor Wheeler led all scorers with 22 and Logan Fraley had 17 in the win.

The Pirates receive a visit from Northwest Monday.
