Kids enjoying their breakfast reacted with excitement when Santa Claus walked into the room Saturday morning at the Masonic Temple building on Chillicothe Street in Portsmouth.

“It was terrific,” Tim Martin, Past Master of Aurora Lodge of Freemasons in Portsmouth, said. “I wish we could have shots of some of those looks on those faces when they saw Santa walk in here this morning. We had a few kids, and they were really taken aback when they saw him come in.”

Martin said the event, held on the seventh floor of the Masonic Temple building, was a first for the local lodge.

“Our line officers in our lodge decided to have a breakfast with Santa,” Martin said. “They decorated and put a lot of work into this. This will hopefully be an annual event.”

One by one, children stepped up to the stage where Santa sat next to a beautifully decorated Christmas tree and told the jolly old elf what they were hoping for under their Christmas tree this Christmas.

“Some other lodges in the county; the Lucasville lodge out at Lucasville and Western Sun at Wheelersburg have similar events this time of year,” Martin said. “So we thought, by being Portsmouth, we’re kind of the downtown lodge, so we thought we ought to be doing it also. It looks like it’s going to be great for the community, the kids, and our lodge.”
