Mary Arnzen, executive director of the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, said the Second Annual Red Cross Jingle Bell Jog 5k 3.1 mile run/walk on Saturday was a big success.

“We had 177 racers which is up 30 percent from last year’s first Jingle Bell Jog,” Arnzen said. “We want to say a big thank you to our volunteers who helped us prepare and put on this race, the sponsors and then of course the racers.”

First place overall winner was 15-year-old Dakota Williams from Sardinia, Ohio, and he finished the 3.1 mile race in 19.37 minutes. Second place overall male went to Johnny Clay of Lucasville at 19:49, and third place went to Levi Pack of Portsmouth in 20.28 minutes. The first female finisher was Missy Taylor of Ashland, Ky. Kara Coldiron of Greenup Ky., finished second, and Hannah Conn of Portsmouth came in as the third overall womens’ finisher at 23.26 minutes.

The first place Christmas Costume Contest winner was Dr. Michael Raies as “The Grinch,” who finished the race in 34.47 minutes, in costume. Second place went to matching girl elves, Robin Seaman finishing in 32.57 minutes and Melyssa Shannon finishing in 31.59 minutes. Third place went to Kelly Begley dressed as a snow woman, finishing the race in 37.20 minutes. Fourth place went to Jill Adkins, dressed as an elf and finished the race 38.33 minutes.

“Everyone will want to mark their calendars as next year’s race will be on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, which will allow you plenty of time to pick out your merry best for next year’s Christmas Costume Contest,” Arnzen said.
