There are just a few days left to pre-register for the Jingle Bell Jog 5-K run/walk set for 9 a.m. on Dec. 1, sponsored by the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.


“The registration fee is $20 per runner if they register by Nov. 23,” Mary Arnzen, Executive Director of the Ohio River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross said. “It will be $25 on the race. Tee-shirts are guaranteed for those who preregister, but they will also be available the day of the race.”


Registration fee checks should be made out to: American Red Cross Ohio River Valley Chapter, and may be mailed to The Red Cross, 1801 Robinson Ave., Portsmouth, Ohio 45662. Those wishing to participate may also register at active.com; tristateracer.com, or by calling 740-354-3293. Proceeds from the event will benefit local disaster services.


The competition will be divided into the following age groups: 10 and under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-25; 26-30; 31-35; 36-40; 41-45; 46-50; 51-55; 56-60; 61-65; 66-70; 70 and over, with special prizes given to the top three overall winners (male and female); the top three finishers in each age group (male and female); a medal will be given to all participants, and a $100 gift certificate from Scioto Shoe Mart will be awarded the participant with the best costume.


Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Scioto County Welcome Center, 342 Second St., in Portsmouth. The race begins promptly at 9 a.m. on Front Street behind the Welcome Center.


Arnzen said door prizes will be awarded and refreshments served before, during, and after the race.
