The Southern Ohio Conference announced its list of volleyball All-Stars Tuesday evening and as expected, the SOC I Champion Eastern Lady Eagles and SOC II Champion Waverly Lady Tigers headline the list of honorees.
Each team went 14-0 in their conference schedules and landed four players on the First Team list of their respective divisions. Chandler Brown, Rhyanna Day, Brittany Mounts and Miranda Clark each garnered First Team SOC I All-Star honors while Kala Hall, Bri Wiget, Hannah Martin and Kayla Riffe of Waverly each landed on the SOC II All-Star list.
“I am very proud of these girls,” Eastern coach Janet Day said. “These aren’t just good volleyball players. Each has represented Eastern very well. They are good students and good citizens and I have no doubt each of them will go on the great things in life.”
Eastern’s Rhyanna Day was the SOC I Player of the Year and her coach, Janet Day, won Coach of the Year. Hall took SOC II Player of the Year honors while her coach, Natalie Bobo, was tabbed as Coach of the Year.
“It’s an honor to be coach of the year but it’s more like an award for the kids,” Waverly coach Natalie Bobo said. “They put in all the time and work, so I’d much rather it be a team award.”
Bobo said Hall was the catalyst to the Lady Tigers’ offense.
“She is very deserving of the award and was a leader on the floor, without her we would have had very little consistent offense,” Bobo said.
Eastern, which has not dropped a set all season long, continues its postseason march today at Lancaster High School against Newark Catholic in a Division IV Regional Semifinal.
Waverly lost to Fairfield Union Saturday evening in five sets to be a Division II Southeast District runner-up.
The SOC All-Star Volleyball game will be held at 7 p.m., Nov. 5 at Clay High School.
