BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Once again, the elusive historic win that the University of Rio Grande women’s soccer team has been searching for will have to wait.

The RedStorm failed to record what would’ve been a school record-tying seventh win on the season, dropping a 2-0 decision to Bluefield (Va.) College in its Mid-South Conference and regular season finale at the East River Soccer Complex.

The loss left head coach Callum Morris’ squad at 6-10 overall and 2-7 in the MSC, while also assuring the RedStorm of the No. 8 seed in the upcoming MSC Tournament.

Rio Grande will face top-seeded and No. 2 ranked Lindsey Wilson in the tourney’s quarterfinal round on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The RedStorm, who played without freshman midfielder Taylor Ahrens, were outshot 25-7, including 14-4 in shots on goal.

Ahrens, Rio’s third leading scorer, suffered an ankle injury in last Saturday’s loss at home to Campbellsville.

Bluefield scored what proved to be the only goal it would need with 17:40 left in the opening half when Enajah Winbush found the back of the net off of a feed from Jessica Dutka.

That’s how things stayed until BC’s Tori Doyle scored an unassisted marker with 14:30 remaining following a corner kick by teammate Callan Camin to make it 2-0.

Sophomore goal keeper Allison Keeney recorded 12 saves in a losing cause for Rio.

Kayla Richardson had four saves in the shutout effort for the Rams, who did set a single-season school record for victories with the win, improving to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the MSC.
