Artisan grant awarded to Lewis County

VANCEBURG, Ky. – Lewis County artisans hoping for a place to showcase their talents will soon have it, thanks to a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
The “Our Town” grant is being awarded to the Center for Appalachian Philanthropy for Vanceburg and Lewis County, according to Mandy Hart, executive director of the Center.
She said the announcement was made during the Lion’s Club’s second annual Heritage Fest held Oct. 13.
“The grant seems such a good fit for us because our community is blessed with so many talented artisans in so many venues,” Hart said. “We’re excited that native Lewis Countian Mitchell Tolle will be a part of this project.”
Tolle has long been capturing historic scenes from the county on canvas, some of historical places that sadly have disappeared from the scene.
Hart said a Town Hall meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Lewis County Extension Office for citizens to come out and share their vision “for the promising future of Vanceburg and Lewis County.”
More information on the project is available by calling her at (740) 352-7150.
