NEW BOSTON —A 4-year-old girl was injured Tuesday when she reportedly pulled away from an adult and ran into oncoming traffic.
According to New Boston Police Capt. Steve Goins, witnesses reported that a 4-year-old girl was with an adult when they stopped along the side of the road to cross the street in the 3400 block of Rhodes Avenue. The girl reportedly pulled away from the adult and ran into the street, where she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
New Boston 911 was called at 8 p.m. and New Boston Police, along with fire and ambulance, responded. Goins said the child was conscious at the scene and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. She was later flown to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus for further treatment and observation. Goins said her injuries were not life-threatening.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, but Goins said the driver was “pretty well shaken up from the incident” and was examined by emergency personnel on the scene for possible shock. The driver was not transported to the hospital.
No charges have been filed against the driver.
