As the month of October in its second week, schools throughout the state are starting to separate themselves both in the computer rankings as well as the latest Associated Press polls that were released Monday.

This week is the first time all season an area team is not in the Top 10 in any of the six divisions in the state. Ironton, which was ninth in last week’s Division IV poll, fell to 11th after last week’s 42-8 home loss to Columbus Bishop Watterson. The road doesn’t get any easier for the Fighting Tigers as they host the top team in Division IV, Columbus Bishop Hartley, Friday night in the regular season home finale.

Also in Division IV, Minford is 13th after last Friday’s 54-7 win at Northwest. The Falcons will put their unbeaten record on the line when they travel Friday night to Wheelersburg, which comes into the Division V poll ranked 17th. The Pirates defeated host Waverly 48-26 last week.

Valley, which shut out West 30-0 last week in West Portsmouth to run its regular season winning streak to 17 games, checks in at No. 12 in Division V. The Indians are on the road this week at Northwest.

Finally, Symmes Valley’s 56-14 win at East last week boosted the Vikings to 14th in the Division VI polls. They will play for at least a share of the SOC I crown this Friday when Oak Hill comes to Willow Wood.

All five area schools with some form of representation in this week’s poll are among the teams in the playoff hunt in their respective regions. Ironton is second in Division IV, Region 15 while Minford is third and Piketon occupies the fifth seed. In Division V, Region 19, Oak Hill has the top spot, Wheelersburg is third and Valley is fourth. Lastly, Symmes Valley is sixth in Division VI, Region 23 and Notre Dame is seventh.

For the second-straight week, all six schools that occupied the top spot in their respective divisions did not move.
