Martha Ellen Gilmer, 81
Martha Ellen Dunham Gilmer, 81, of Portsmouth, passed away on Sept. 22, 2012, at The Ohio State University Medical Center with her family at her side.
Martha was born on Nov. 7, 1930, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a daughter of the late Lee Roy and Blanche Dunham of Portsmouth. Ohio.
Surviving are her son, David Gilmer of Portsmouth; daughter, Kay Ellen Gilmer-Dewey and son-in-law, Ken Dewey of Laurelville, Ohio; granddaughter Tracey (John) Austin of Grove City, Ohio, grandson, Joshua (Jamie) Gossett of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, granddaughter, Carolyn Lesher (Jason) of Adamstown, Pa., grandson, Keith Dewey (Lauren) of Fort Collins, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Emily and Nicole Austin, Jacob Gossett, and Gabriel, Sarah and James Lesher.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Gilmer; and half-brother, Robert Dunham of Oswego, Ill.
Martha was a 1948 graduate of Portsmouth High School. Before becoming a full time mother, she worked for WPAY radio station, where she met her husband, the late Robert Gilmer. She was a SOMC volunteer for 40 years and a founding member of the Hope Guild.
There will be an informal celebration of life with Martha’s family and friends in the Forrest Room at Hill View Retirement Community from 1 p. m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
