Visting Notre Dame took care of business in Cuyahoga County Saturday, defeating host Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph 14-6 in nonleague action.


Full statistics were unavailable as of 1 p.m. Sunday. The Titans play their final nonleague contest next Saturday when they host Manchester.

South Point 5, Clay 1

Michael Lieh scored a pair of goals and Trey Kearns added a goal and an assist as visiting South Point defeated Clay 5-1 in Saturday’s action.


Mason Pelphrey scored the lone goal for the Panthers in the second half. Clay returns to action Tuesday with a trip to New Boston.

Bob Reall Lancaster Invitational

The Wheelersburg and Piketon cross country teams competed in Saturday’s Bob Reall Lancaster Invitational hosted by Lancaster High School.

The Pirate boys finished fourth in the boys Division III team event and 12 in the girls Division III team event. The Redstreak boys were ninth in the boys Division II team event.

Piketon’s Zack Varney was the area’s top runner, finishing 11th in his race with a time of 17:14.2. Wheelersburg’s Max Conley’s time of 17:46.1 was the 12th best runner in the event he competed in.

Lauren Bays was the Pirates best female runner, crossing the tape at 22:55.2, good enough for 28th place. In the girls open race, the Redstreaks’ Madison Reed finished 142nd with a time of 27:15.5.

With a score of 62, Peninsula Woodridge won the boys Division II team event. Piketon’s score was 278. Sheridan’s Matt Bromley won the race with a time of 16:26.1.

Liberty Union’s 98 was good enough to win the boys Division III team event. Wheelersburg’s score was 134. Southern’s 16:08.0 was the fastest runner.

Mount Gilead swept the girls Division III team event and the top individual finish as Raychel Gress’ 20:05.9 helped her squad to a score of 45. The Pirates had a total of 292.

42nd annual Patty Forgey Invitational at Rio Grande

The Minford boys finished seventh in the white race and the Waverly girls were fifth in the white race as the top team finishers during Saturday’s Patty Forgey Invitational at the University of Rio Grande.

The top Falcon was Tyler Evans as his time of 18:46.52 was the 12th-best time of the heat. Northwest’s Lee Wartloft led his team with a 19:24.44, good enough for 27th.

The Tigers paced by Jeffrey McCambridge as he came in 31st with a time of 19:32.62. Ironton’s top runner was Tyler Lawless, who finished 47th with a time of 20:26.38.

South Webster’s Evan Martin was the area’s top runner in the red race, crossing the stripe at number 152 with a time of 23:53.00.

On the girls side, Waverly received a 22nd-place finish from Jamie Welch with a time of 23:51.0. The Fighting Tigers were paced by Ariel Schweickart, whose time of 22:46.0 was the 12-best time.

Valley’s Catherine McCrory was 45th with a time of 27:10.0. The Jeeps’ Abby McCoy finished with a time of 27:43.0, good enough for 48th place and Northwest’s Charlie McClay was 55th with a time of 28:38.0

Cabell (WV) Midland’s 56 points won the boys red race, Belpre needed 51 points to win the boys white team, Hurricane (WV) received 63 points for the girls red title and Reedsville Eastern captured the girls white race with 37 points. Fairland’s Raine Wireman (boys red — 16:44.0), Beloit West Branch’s Drake Lohnes (boys white — 17:08.24), Hurricane’s Tori Dent (girls red — 19:37.0) and Fairfield Union’s Jessica Swaim (girls white — 20:13.0) were all the indivdual race winners.
