CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Golf cut eight strokes off its score from Monday, shooting 300 (+12) as a team on Tuesday to finish with a combined two-day total of 608 at the MSC Fall Tournament. However, a strong close by Pikeville would edge a solid day on the links for the Bears who settled for sixth place – just one stroke behind Pikeville. University of the Cumberlands shot just two-over-par for the tournament to take home the championship by one stroke over Lindsey Wilson.

Individually, freshman Nick Saunders led the team for the second consecutive day. He shot even par to finish his tournament at one-over-par and in 11th place. Starting on hole four, he would double-bogey to start his day, but get those two back with birdies on seven and nine. Saunders would go one-under on 12, but give it back on 13. Back-to-back birdies had him at two-under with five to play before he lost a stroke on both 18 and back around at two to finish at even par.

Josh Zornes cut two strokes off his score from yesterday. He had another tough start to the day with bogeys on five and six after starting on the fourth hole. However, he would come back and birdie nine and 12 to get his card to even through his first nine holes. He would also card back-to-back birdies on 18 and back around at one, but doubles on a couple of par-3’s, plus a bogey at 13 would put him at plus-3 for the day. His two-day score of eight-over-par placed him in a tie for 25th.

Jared Weber wrapped up his first collegiate tournament with a two-over-par for the day, which was five shots better than his opening round. He also had a rough start with three straight bogeys, plus another on the 10th hole, his sixth of the day. However, he would look to get the momentum rolling in his favor with Shawnee State’s only eagle of the tournament on the par-5 12th. His eagle was one of just 12 for the entire field during the tournament. He would also birdie 15 and close out his round with a birdie on his final hole, number four. Bogeys on 13 and 14 would keep him from even par. At plus-9 for the week, he tied for 29th place.

Corey Arthur and Rob Pell both shot seven-over-par 79’s on Tuesday. For Arthur, it was the second straight day at 79. He made two birdies on the day, but his bogeys and a double on the third-to-last hole would come back to haunt him. He tied for 40th overall. Pell birdied three different holes on Tuesday, but had some trouble closing his round after his final birdie on 12, ultimately finishing in 63rd position.

The Bears will have one final tournament to be played in mid-October before they close the book on the fall schedule. They will then be back on the links during the spring for the primary portion of their season.
