POINT PLEASANT — There were a total of 94 contestants who participated in last week’s Fifth Annual Miss Mothman Festival Pageants.
According to organizers, of those candidates, 10 were crowned and named the 2012 Mothman Festival Royalty which include: Kendra Davis, Tiny Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Jasmine Wright, Little Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Sofia Strobl, very first Young Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Abby Vansickle, Junior Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Amber Biel, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Princess; Peyton Lovell, Teen Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Amanda Baker, Miss Mothman Festival Princess; LaTasha Mitchell, Miss Mothman Festival Queen; Madelynn Coalson, Ms. Mothman Festival Queen; and Melissa Wilson, Mrs. Mothman Festival Queen.
The pageants began Thursday evening at the Trinity United Methodist Church Auditorium, where four were crowned, including Tiny Miss Kendra Davis, the three-year old daughter of Kenny and Tammy Davis of Gallipolis, Ohio. Davis also won the optionals for Best Dressed and Best Personality. First runner-up in the Tiny Miss division was Audrey Burris who took home the Prettiest Eyes Award. Second runner-up was Riley Springston, who won three optionals in this age division — Prettiest Hair, Prettiest Smile and Best Model. Springston additionally won Tiny Miss Photogenic. Third runner-up was Emmaleee Moodispaugh, and fourth runner-up went to Addison Norris-Page.
In the Little Miss division, Jasmine Wright captured the crown. She is the five-year old daughter of Jessica Wright of Parkersburg. Wright also took home optional awards for Prettiest Smile and Best Model. Runners-up in this division were Jazahera Moore, first runner-up and Best Dressed; Hannah Pope, second runner-up and Best Personality; Shaelynn Johnson, third runner-up and Prettiest Eyes; and Peytin Rossiter, fourth runner-up and Little Miss Photogenic. Other optional winners were Mickinley Tingler, Prettiest Hair.
The very first Young Miss title went to Sofia Strobl, the eight-year old daughter of Neil and Parnaz Strobl of Vienna. Strobl additionally won Prettiest Smile. First runner-up in this age group went to Olivia Brooks, who also won Young Miss Photogenic and Prettiest Eyes. Emily Tackett was named the second runner-up and won the Best Dressed Award. Third runner-up was Grayson Enoch who also took home the Best Model Award. And fourth runner-up went to Allie Warth. Other optional winners were Cierra Rollins, Prettiest Hair and Rylee Harner, Best Personality.
In the Junior Miss division, it was Abby VanSickle of Gallipolis, Ohio, who took home the crown and the Best Personality Award. She is the 11-year old daughter of Danella and Dale Newberry. Runners-up in this age group included Arianna Nedeff, first runner-up, Prettiest Eyes and Junior Miss Photogenic; Jordan Balog, second runner-up and Best Dressed; Courtney Archibald, third runner-up and Prettiest Hair; and Marley Umensetter, fourth runner-up. Other optional award winners were Olivia Norris, Prettiest Smile; and McKenzie Roush, Best Model.
The 2012 Crowd Favorite Award, voted by the audience, was awarded to Cierra Rollins, the nine-year old daughter of Trent and Paige Roush, and David Rollins of Mason. Rollins received a tiara and plaque.
On Friday night, six were crowned festival royalty and included Peyton Lovell, the new Teen Miss Mothman Festival Queen. She is the 14-year old daughter of Michael and Barbara Williams of New Haven. Lovell additionally was voted by the Teen Miss contestants as Teen Miss Congeniality, and she had the Top On-Stage Interview Award. Winning the Teen Miss Mothman Festival Princess title was Amber Biel of Charleston. She is the 15-year old daughter of Josh and Erica Strother. Biel took home the Top Evening Wear and Top Moth Wear Awards. Runners-up in this division went to Shiloh Wamsley, first runner-up; Jocelynn Frye-Wilson, second runner-up; Darian Miller, third runner-up; and Kami Shultis, fourth runner-up. Taylor Gillam won Teen Miss Photogenic.
In the Miss division, LaTasha Mitchell of Danville claimed the top spot and took home the Miss crown. She is the 19-year old daughter of Guy and LaDonna Mitchell. The Queen also won Top On-Stage Interview. The 2012 Miss Mothman Festival Princess title went to Amanda Baker. She is the 20-year old daughter of John and Tammy Baker of Point Pleasant. First runner-up in the Miss division is MacKenzie Hapney who also won Top Evening Wear. Second runner-up went to Shelby Case. Third runner-up was Deeanna Sayre who also won Miss Photogenic, and fourth runner-up went to Courtney Perry. Asia Richmond won the Top Moth Wear Award. The Miss Congeniality Award went to Maggie Mamo.
Madelynn Coalson won the title of Ms. Mothman Festival Queen. She is 24 years old and is from Huntington. Coalson also was voted as Ms. Congeniality and won the Top On-Stage Interview Award. Runners-up in this division were Stephanie Davis, first runner-up and Top Evening Wear; Ashley Conley, second runner-up and Top Moth Wear; Jessica Sylvester, third runner-up; and Autumn Smith, fourth runner-up. Melissa Burns (the contestant who traveled the furthest — from Montana) won the Ms. Photogenic Award.
The final queen chosen on Friday night was Melissa Wilson who captured the 2012 Mrs. Mothman Festival Queen title. She is married to Rob Wilson and is from Point Pleasant. First runner-up in the Mrs. division was Patty Plaugher who also won Top Evening Wear and Mrs. Photogenic. Second runner-up was Sara Scott. Third runner-up was Rebecca Cunningham who also won Top Moth Wear. Fourth runner-up was Miranda Hartley and Mrs. Congeniality was Ponnie Sampson.
According to pageant director, Delyssa Huffman, many local businesses and individuals stepped up to the plate this year to make the pageant happen.
