With the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office busy with a murder trial beginning Monday, they are also preparing for another high profile trial.

The owner of the last pain clinic in Scioto County is scheduled to go on Trial on Sept. 17. George Marshall Adkins of 53 Brouse St., West Portsmouth, owner of Greater Medical Advance on Ohio River Road in Wheelersburg, and a former corrections officer at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, was indicted Dec. 20 on four charges: conspiracy to engage in corrupt activity, funding drug trafficking, permitting drug abuse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, when the Attorney General’s office staff, drug prosecutor Aaron Haslem, and Scioto County Sheriff detectives and deputies padlocked the door to Greater Medical Advance.

Law enforcement at the time also announced the indictment of Dr. Victor Andrei Georgescu, on charges of conspiracy to engage in corrupt activity, funding drug trafficking, permitting drug abuse, and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity. However, Georgescu was found dead in a motel in Liberty, Ohio on Aug. 4. Authorities in Trumbull County referred to his death as drug-related.

In the same raid, Tammy Newman, the former owner and, at the time an employee, was also charged with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, conspiracy to engage in corrupt activity and funding drug trafficking; and Melissa Veach, an employee who was charged with aggravated drug possession. Georgescu was taken into custody at his apartment in Centerville, just before the pain clinic raid that same morning.
