Man arrested for stealing a semi truck in Kentucky
PDT Staff Writer
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini announces the arrest of a West Portsmouth man in connection with a theft of semi truck in Maysville, Ky.
Donini said his deputies arrested Corey L. Murphy, 27, of Ohio 52 in Stout, Ohio. The arrest comes after a Scioto County grand jury returned an indictment for receiving stolen property in the case of a semi truck that was stolen from a parking lot in Maysville. The semi truck had been parked at a business in Kentucky and when the victim returned the vehicle was missing. The company of the truck activated a GPS system on the truck and the last signal response was around Ohio 239 in West Portsmouth. Deputies along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol searched the area and they were unable to locate the vehicle.
One week after the incident, the Scioto County Clay Township Deputy received a complaint from a citizen on Hinkley Hollow in Portsmouth. The complaint was that he saw a semi parked behind a residence facing the hillside near some brush. The citizen became suspicious when the next day he saw a man cutting the truck with some cutting torches.
Donini said Murphy has been a person of interest on several other stolen semi trucks in the area. He is being held in the Scioto County Jail for one count of Receiving Stolen Property with $25,000 bond and will be arraigned in Scioto County Common Please Court.
Donini said anyone with information about the case can contact detective Paul Blaine at 740-351-1092 and all information will be kept confidential.
