Work is set to begin Monday on the replacement of a bridge located on Simpson Road in Rush Township. A contract valued at $256,207 has been awarded to U.S. Bridge, of Cambridge, Ohio. According to Scioto County Engineer Craig Opperman, construction will start Monday and continue through Monday, Aug. 20. The existing bridge dates back to 1913, he said.
Also beginning Monday, Opperman also said there is a bridge replacement project at West Street in Valley Township which will continue through Friday, Aug. 17, both day and night. The location of the closure is between Shay Street and High Street. County Engineer’s Crews will be replacing the bridge.
Under contracts recently awarded, two other bridges are also expected to be replaced in the near future.
A contract, valued at $438,000, has been awarded to DGM Inc. of Beaver, Ohio, for a Kendall Road bridge replacement, and J&H Erectors has been awarded the contract, valued at $201,345, to replace the bridge located on on Van Crabtree Road in Morgan Township.
Paving work is also expected to begin soon to pave part of Carey’s Run Pond Creek Road in Washington Township, Downtown Hayport Road in Porter Township, Junior Furnace-Powellsville Road in Green Township and part of Swauger Valley Road. A contract has been awarded to the Shelly Company, of Thornville, Ohio for $834,328 to complete the work.
“In addition we are working with the village of New Boston to paving Lakeview Avenue and Oak Street,” Opperman said.
He said the paving in New Boston is being done in conjunction with the opening of the new school. In total there will be about 8.74 miles of roadway paved. The paving and bridge projects on Simpson Road, Kendall Road, and Van Crabtree Road are being funded in-part by a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
Opperman said the work expected to be completed by the end of November.
Mowing projects have also been announced through Aug. 10 on Pollock Road in Rush and Union Townships, McDermott-Pond Creek Road in Rush and Union Townships, Owensville Road in Rush Township, Carey’s Run-Pond Creek Road in Rush, Union and Washington Townships, Frederick Road in Bloom and Harrison Townships, Kentucky Trail Road in Bloom, Harrison and Madison Townships, Laurel Lick Road in Bloom Township, and Stockham Road in Madison Township.
