The first annual Scioto Rally for Recovery set to take place August 4th in Tracy Park in Portsmouth. The event is being held to give the community time to celebrate past successes in combating prescription drug abuse.

“The purpose of the event is to celebrate our past successes and give everyone an opportunity to be apart of this movement to get Scioto County back in a good healthily state of recovery,” said Lisa Roberts, event spokeswoman said.

She said throughout the planning process the event has ended up with a lot of partners including SOLACE, The Garrett Maloney Foundation and the Brothers of the Wheel Motorcycle Club.

“As we were planning for the event, we kept adding more to the rally. Now it has turned into an all day fun filled entertainment extravaganza, with something for everyone,” Roberts said. “Our hope is to turn this into an annual event.”

The event will start at 2 p.m. with a Brothers of the Wheel poker run.

From Noon - 5 p.m. there will be a battle of the bands called, the Garrett Maloney battle of the bands.

“There are seven bands currently signed up for this. They will be competing throughout the day for a prize,” Roberts said.

From 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. an event called “Scioto’s Got Talent” and “Recovery Rocks.”

“For Scioto’s Got Talent we have some entertainers coming in. For Recovery Rocks, we have some people who will be telling their stories about recovery from alcohol and drug addiction,” Roberts said. “The main event of the rally will take place at 8 p.m. with a concert from country artist Rick Ferrell. Jake Tolliver is warming rick up.”

“We are selling reserved seating for the concert. Those tickets are $10. Those tickets can be purchased by calling the Garrett Maloney Foundation at 740-876-9171 or at the Portsmouth Health Dept. 605 Washington St. Portsmouth,” Roberts said.

At the end of the event SOLACE will be conducting a luminary launch.

Roberts said, all of the proceeds from the event will go to fund indigent addiction treatment services for people in need.
