A Scioto County man is in critical condition at a Huntington, W.Va., hospital after being shot and authorities are following leads as to identity of his assailants. Brian K. McClain, 40, of the 2000 block of Cockrell’s Run Road in Lucasville was reportedly robbed and shot around 3:15 a.m. Monday.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said the Sheriff’s 911 center received a call from a male stating that he had been robbed and shot while at his residence. At about 3:17 a.m. when deputies arrived on the scene, they observed that McClain had been shot at his residence. McClain was alert and oriented at the time of deputies’ arrival.
The victim told officers the suspects took a large amount of money from the victim after shooting him. The caliber of the weapon is not being released at this time. Detectives have developed suspects in the case, and more information will be released at a later time. Detectives believe that the victim knew his attackers and it is unclear at this point of the investigation if the shooting is drug related or not.
McClain received medical support from the Valley Township EMS on the scene and transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center. He was later transferred to a Huntington-area hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.
Donini said anybody with any information on the shooting should contact Detective Paul Blaine at 740-354-7566. He said all calls will remain anonymous.
